What Friendswood Gutters Are Really Up Against

Friendswood straddles the Harris-Galveston county line, with most of the city's older neighborhoods on the Galveston side and the newer master-plans — West Ranch, Friendswood Lakes — on the Harris side. It's one of the older communities in the area, founded as a Quaker settlement in 1895, and the established core along FM 518 carries housing from the 1960s through the 1980s under a substantial live oak canopy, with newer construction filling in around it. Two counties and several very different housing generations inside a few miles — the right gutter spec genuinely changes street by street. Water defines Friendswood's risk profile. Clear Creek runs along the city, with Mary's Creek and Cowart Creek feeding it from inside the city limits, and when a tropical system stalls, those creeks are the flood mechanism — Hurricane Harvey in 2017 hit Friendswood as hard as almost anywhere in the metro. Many homes still bear the marks of that water event, including fascia damage that wasn't fully repaired when gutters were replaced, which is why we always inspect for hidden water damage during Friendswood site visits and address it before remounting gutters. Rot behind a straight-looking gutter run is the most common surprise we find here. The Gulf is close enough to matter. Friendswood sits inland of the surge zones that hammer the bay-front cities, but hurricane wind arrives at full strength, and the city's storm-surge proximity means hidden hangers need to be installed tighter than the standard 24-inch spacing so runs stay attached through a named storm. Salt exposure is milder than in Clear Lake or League City but not zero on the eastern edges, so baked-enamel finishes and coated fasteners are cheap insurance. After any tropical event we recommend a quick inspection — wind-loosened hangers and debris-packed outlets show up weeks later as overflow stains if nobody looks.
