Myth 1: "Gutters cause ice dams"
Reality: Ice dams are caused by poor attic insulation and ventilation, not gutters. When heat escapes through the roof, it melts snow on the upper sections. That water runs down to the colder eaves and refreezes. Gutters can collect this ice, but they don't cause it. Removing gutters doesn't prevent ice dams — it just removes your water management system.
Myth 2: "You don't really need gutters in Houston"

Myth 5: "Bigger gutters are always better"

Myth 6: "You can install gutters yourself to save money"

Reality: Home inspectors specifically note the condition of gutters in their reports. Missing, damaged, or poorly functioning gutters are flagged as deficiencies that can affect sale price and buyer confidence. Conversely, a well-maintained gutter system with guards is a selling point.
Myth 9: "You only need to clean gutters in the fall"
Reality: In Houston, debris accumulates year-round. Pine trees shed needles constantly, oak pollen covers everything in spring, and summer storms deposit leaves and shingle granules. Fall is the most important cleaning, but it's not the only one you need.
Myth 10: "The cheapest quote is the best value"
Reality: The cheapest gutter installer almost always cuts corners — thinner material, wider hanger spacing, fewer downspouts, no fascia inspection, and minimal or no warranty.
